SPECIALS GRADING PRACTICES
Students are graded in two areas: 1) Demonstrates concepts and skills and 2) Participates in activities. The grading practices for Wellness, Art, and Music are as follows:
Kinder, 1st, 2nd are graded using a 4,3,2,1 rubric and 3rd, 4th,5th are graded using E,S,N,U rubric
Demonstrates Concepts and Skills
1 – Exhibits skill/concept with direct guidance
U – Exhibits a lack of skill/concept and does not accept guidance
2 – Exhibits skill/concept with minimal guidance
N – Exhibits minimal understanding of skill/concept guidelines.
3 – Exhibits mastery of skill/concept
S – Exhibits consistent responsibility for skill/concept with little or no guidance
4 – Exhibits understanding beyond grade level expectation.
E - Exhibits mastery of skill/concept with no guidance.
Participates in Activities (Behavior)
1/U - Area of concern; student demonstrates a lack of involvement and responsibility for learning. Student needs to improve in one or more areas.
2/N - Improving; student demonstrates varying levels of involvement and responsibility not consistent for learning. Student often does not follow the classroom guidelines.
3/S - Student demonstrates a steady, reliable level of involvement and consistent responsibility for learning. The student follows the classroom guidelines and participates each class period.
4/E – Student demonstrates a superior level of involvement and responsibility for learning. Student obeys the classroom rules, actively participates and has an excellent attitude each and every class.
For grades Kinder, 1st and 2nd, students will receive two separate report card grades, one for skill/concepts and one for behavior/participation.
On 3rd, 4th, 5th grade report cards, the two grades will be averaged into one grade for each specials area.
Parents will be notified of student progress if needed in the form of a note home, email and/or phone call.
